Hello my dear readers,
It’s that time of year again! Are you starting to feel anxious about the holidays? Feeling perhaps uncomfortable about some of the people you are supposed to be seeing for Thanksgiving, for example?
Do you ever wish that you could take a break completely from the holidays, even if just for one year?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, I’m here to tell you that you’re not alone, and furthermore there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you! Sure, holidays can be great, beautiful, worth being thankful for, etc. But often, for many of us, the holidays are fraught with feelings of pressure, stress, the need to be perfect, and other awkward elements that challenge us to the core of our very being.
For example, let’s say you’re on a diet, or maybe even practicing at refraining from eating meat, or sugar. And let’s say you’ve decided to surround yourself with only healthy relationships in an earnest effort to redefine yourself, and maybe cut ties from those people who you have felt hurt by on some level. And let’s say those people are family members, or extended family members. What’s a person to do?
Or what have you been struggling with infertility and the gathering are expected to attend, such as Thanksgiving, will include one or two expectant mothers, mothers and their new babies and a bunch is little children joyfully running all around. Is ok to politely decline an invitation in this case? In this case, I would say it is absolutely ok to decline.
Is there a law that says we must attend all social gatherings around the holidays? No.
Is it okay to take a breather from the holidays without guilt, or remorse? Yes!! Why not? Whose life is it anyway?
